2017 Steer Trial
2017 TOPX Longreach Winton Show Steer Trial
“Battle Of The Breeds”
The grassfed phase of the Winton Show Society TopX Steer Trial completed earlier than expected on the 8 February 2017. Prior to this, weights were taken at Daintree Station 10 August 2016, 9th November 2016 and 7th December 2016. 103 out of 111 steers met the specifications and were sold to Teys Brothers after being weighed at the Winton Saleyards. From there they went to Miamba Feedlot, Condamine, and were fed for up to 150 days prior to slaughter.
The Trial has since culminated in a dinner and prize-giving function at the Boulder Opal Motel on the 11th of November 2017. Seventeen of eighteen cattle owners were able to attend, along with major sponsors Tom & Belinda McLeish from TopX Longreach. Local sponsors, Tom & Emma Brodie from Brodie Agencies, Winton were also in attendance. Prize money and trophies were presented to winners and placegetters for the Grass Fed and Carcase Sections.
All producers are to be congratulated for the spirit in which they participated. Special thanks to Ken and Alex Sorensen who have driven the project. Strong support exists within the group to have another trial once seasonal conditions improve.
A special mention to the following sponsors for their generous support:
TopX Longreach, Brodie Agencies, Elders Winton, Z Tags, Ivomec, Gough Plastics, ELANCO and Beachport Liquid Minerals.
